What materials are recovered when PU foam cans are recycled?
Used PU foam cans contain hazardous substances and recyclable materials. By recycling PDR, the resources can be used for new products. A very high proportion of the recovered ingredients are returned to the cycle. Thanks to 30 years of know-how and experience, the recycling rate is more than 95%. PU prepolymers and propellants can be reused directly for new PU foams.
What products are recovered?
We obtain high-quality products by recycling used PU foam cans. The industry feeds these back into the production cycle.
The following products and raw materials are created:
- PREPUR® (PU prepolymer)
- PREMOD® (a blend of a PU prepolymer)
- TRIGAS® (propellant gas)
- Plastic regrind PE/PP
- Tinplate
- Aluminum
- Cardboard packaging
More about our products:
Prepolymer PREPUR®
PREPUR® is the prepolymer that we recover from PU foam cans. It is mainly used again in new PU foams as well as in various other polyurethane applications. Watch this short animation to see how the recovered PREPUR® product behaves when flowing.
Prepolymer PREMOD®
PDR also produces blends (mixtures) of PREPUR prepolymer with MDI on customer request.
TRIGAS® - Blowing agent
TRIGAS® is the propellant that we recover from PU foam cans. The aerosol industry uses the liquid gas mixture for the production of new PU foam cans or other technical aerosol products.
Regrind PE/PP
The plastic regrind PE/PP is the regrind from the caps of used PU foam cans. It is a colorful mixture of the plastics PE/PP.
